There is something to be said for subtlety… even though I don’t say it very much in my paintings. The earthy colours seem to accentuate the outlines and three-dimensional quality of botanicals, and when it happens it’s a bit of magic. I love the green and beige with a hint of terracotta. And lots and lots of gold... all rooted in earth.
